UFC's Nate Marquardt Named SAF's "True Warrior" for 2009-2010 PDF Print E-mail

It was a close vote at first, but as soon as Nate "The Great" Marquardt's fans caught wind that he was up for some much-deserved recognition, the word spread, and the votes came rolling in.

On Sunday, Nate was declared the winner of the public vote deciding who would be named the Sharon Antcliff Foundation's "True Warrior" for 2009-2010. The True Warrior award was designed to shine the light on some of our outstanding supporters and volunteers. Nate beat out two extremely deserving candidates for the inaugural award.

Andrea Callahan and Avera Creative have both dedicated time, money, effort, and true concern to SAF over the last six months. Their actions have led directly to free-of-charge websites and marketing materials, financial donations, auction item donations, and an increase of awareness of young-onset Alzheimer's disease. There is no doubt that they are both Warriors for our cause, and there is no way we can put into words how much they both mean to us as a growing non-profit. We only hope that we can find more people and companies like them who are willing to get involved and help us grow.

As for our winner, his impact can be seen on many levels. When Nate was named as the winner of the Tequilla Cazadores Spirit Award before his fight at UFC 102, he named SAF as the recipient of a $1,000 grant on his behalf. To date, that is still our largest single donation received. Nate's involvement has also allowed us to gain access we otherwise may not have had to the mixed martial arts community. There, SAF has found dozens of others willing to help us spread our message, seek donations, seek volunteers, and build relationships.

Perhaps most importantly, Nate is doing this all for us without asking for a thing in return.

Our host will be Chris Voth, a Denver-based comedian who has appeared on NBC's Last Comic Standing, and who has performed with some of the biggest names in comedy, including Dave Attell, Jim Gaffigan, Dana Carvey, Wayne Brady, Larry the Cable Guy, Brett Butler, Caroline Rhea, Tommy Davidson, Kevin Nealon, Tommy Chong, Bobcat Goldthwait, Kevin Pollack, David Brenner, Jake Johannsen, Louie Anderson, Mitch Hedberg, Brian Regan, and Kathleen Madigan.

Proudly presented by Six Star Muscle, the True Warrior Celebration will be a time to relax, eat, drink, and schmooze, as we re-affirm our fight against young-onset Alzheimer's disease.

Enjoy our homestyle bar-b-q buffet, complete with pulled pork sandwiches, fresh rolls, iced tea, lemonade, and more!

Join us, and enjoy a performance by the CU Buffoons, the University of Colorado men's a cappella group, who was recently showcased on the Ben Folds album "University A Cappella." You'll be treated to the unique blend of voices, as they give some of your favorite songs an incredible A Capella treatment.

SAF would like to officially congratulate Nate Marquardt - our SAF True Warrior for 2009-2010!
